I'm an international student in the US that graduated in May. I have a 1 year OPT which started on June 1st, and have been struggling to find employment before my 90 days of unemployment run out. I am posting here seeking guidance about a few specific questions that I hope someone on here could answer:
1) I have a BA in Economics, and have been struggling with understanding what job positions would qualify as being related to my major. If anyone has been in this situation, is this condition strictly regulated? What kind of positions have been rejected as 'not major related' in the past? As job positions have dwindled, I've been forced to apply to a broader set of positions and then praying that they'll count.
2) Similarly, I'm looking for major-relevant volunteering positions (since volunteering would qualify as OPT employment), and would appreciate pointers on avenues I could explore. (I have already tried VolunteerMatch & UNJobs, but would like to broaden my scope.)
3) Any other pointers on resources for students in this situation would be greatly appreciated. I've been quite demoralized about my prospects, and my heart goes out to anyone else on OPT dealing with this right now. We'll make it through somehow.
Thank you in advance, stay safe everyone!
